Ready! Lines & Letters is a 66-page handwriting workbook for 3, 4 and 5 year olds in the preschool years, by Milo Wick. Paperback on Amazon, PDF on Etsy.

Every page has one thing on it. A child who has just picked up a pencil cannot choose where to begin, so the book chooses for them: a dot marks the start, numbered arrows show the direction, and the row fades from a solid model to dotted copies to an empty space, so the help falls away as the hand gets steady.

The strokes come first because letters are made of them. Straight down, across, around, and the curve that becomes C, G, O and S. By the time the alphabet starts, the hand has already drawn every shape it needs.

What is inside

  • 16 pre-writing stroke pages and 4 path mazes
  • 6 basic shapes to trace and draw
  • A page for every capital letter, A to Z
  • Review pages, free practice paper and a certificate

The pictures are made with an image generation tool, then checked one by one by us. How a book gets made.

Pages from the book

A page of star shapes, one solid model with a start dot, then dotted copies that get fainter, then empty boxes to draw in.
The row fades from a solid model to dotted copies to an empty space.
A page for the letter G. A large model letter with a start dot and numbered arrows, then rows of dotted letters on handwriting rules.
Every model carries a start dot and numbered arrows along each stroke.
A winding path maze from a start dot to an ice cream, drawn as two lines with a dashed line down the middle.
Nothing on the page is out of reach: it only uses what came before it.

Why a boy and a girl edition

Children like to find themselves in a book. So Books 1 and 2 come in two editions, one with Rudy and one with Sadie: pick the one your child will enjoy most.

Both teach exactly the same thing, in the same order, on the same pages. Only the child changes: on the cover, in some of the pictures and on the certificate at the end.

Book 3 has one edition, with Rudy and Sadie together.

Questions before you buy

Which age is it for?

Ready! Lines & Letters is for ages 3 to 5. The bands on the three covers overlap on purpose: what matters is what the hand can already do, not the birthday. The series page says which book to start with.

Print or cursive?

Print, not cursive and not pre-cursive: no entry or exit strokes. Every model carries a start dot and numbered arrows in the Zaner-Bloser stroke order, the one most schools in the United States teach, and the order is the same in all three books.

Boy edition or girl edition?

The same book, page for page. Only the child changes: on the cover, in some of the pictures and on the certificate at the end. Pick the one your child will enjoy most.

Can the pages be done again?

The paperback is pencil on paper, once, which is how a workbook is meant to be used: 66 pages is a term of practice. The printable PDF is the same book as a file, and prints again as often as you like.

Are the pictures made with AI?

The pictures start in an image generation tool and are then checked one by one by us. The letters, the arrows and the tracing lines are set from a typeface designed for beginning readers, not generated.

Paperback or PDF?

The paperback is printed and sent by Amazon from the store for your country, 8.5 x 11 in, 66 pages. The PDF is the whole book from our Etsy shop, to print at home on A4 or US Letter paper.
